THE MAGNIFICENT SAMMO HUNG - 洪金寶
Benny 'The Jet' Urquidez
"Dragons Forever" HKL Interview:
'They
wanted me in there and do a different type of fighting. And I said,
what kind of fighting this time we're gonna do, and he asked me "Can we
do something different than the last?" And I said, absolutely. I asked
what kind of a person I'm gonna play and he said I'm gonna be a heroin
dealer and I said OK, I can do that. But I want to be almost devilish,
I wanted to be very spooky and he said OK, but how can we do that? My
eyes are deep set so I said, let's put eyeliner to darken my eyes so
the eyes would "come out" and I said I can be very spooky if you
concentrate more on my eyes and my facial expression. I'll get to a
point where I'll be so spooky that it'll be completely different from
last time. With the fighting we had no problem. We had a time limit and
Jackie and I, we actually slept on the set. We slept there overnight
because we were so tired to go back to the Hotel and come back, it was
always like 2 hours, so we decided to just stay on the set. We got up,
ate something, stretched, and we were right back to it. That was a
really hard hitting movie.
I had more fun behind the screens.
After eating we would play soccer, and we'd do things together outside
and I had a chance to work with them when they were just themselves.
They weren't in front of the camera, acting, they were just themselves.
This is one thing I cherish, you know. They would always want me -
especially Sammo - he'd come and say "try this", and I'd say "It's
still moving" and he'd say "no, no, you must try it". And I'd try it
and they all wanna see my expression trying it. Sammo was always
bringing me something that I've never seen or eaten. And Billy always
wanted me to see his gymnastic things, he always wanted me to actually
see him do things and see if I could do them. And I would try them and
half of it I could, but some of the stuff he was doing I said: "Hey, I
can't do it now, but give me a little time and I'll do it by the time
this movie ends". Jackie was always the one that... not secretive, he
always put his arms around me and he'd take me in a corner and we would
talk. He always wanted to take me somewhere, just him and I and we'd
sit down and talk. We'd talk almost about everything and anything,
because he wanted to practice his English with me and half the time I
tried to figure out what he was saying. Sometimes I would use my hands
as I was talking and he'd use his hands as he was trying to explain to
me what he wanted. If somebody was watching us, it would look like as
if we were actually signlanguage each other. That's how we communicated
because I didn't really understand him. Those are memorable things that
I take with me to this day. Dragons Forever was the last time all three
of them were together. It was very sad, because they work so well
together, they compliment each other and I was said, because I didn't
see them in any other movies together. It was almost like parting, like
the brothers went different directions. It was sad, because I was
looking forward to coming back again, you know, third time is a charm,
and I was looking forward to coming back and fight all three of them.
But they haven't done movies together since, not that I know of. I was
really sad about that because they gree and became so big together.'
