Dragons Forever

"Dragons Forever" HKL Interview:

'You hope the whole film would look... all the characters, images, the sets, to look like something newish. Jackie Chan plays a policeman in too many films, so I wanted a change, so I have him another role. It's tough for him, because everyone knows he can fight, but then I thought that lawyers can be good fighters too. So he tries out the role of a lawyer and I placed his character in a different backdrop. I set him in a different workplace and we explored how his character develops in the film, the story arc and we thought a laywer was a good choice. I play this person who was a greedy, two-bit character, a cheat, someone who cut corners and the Yuen Biao character feels a lot of... He has high expectations of himself and he trusts everyone, and noone believes him. He's true to everyone and everyone else is out to get him. In other words, psychological pressure is mental. Too stressed out, and with psychological pressure and societal pressure. I felt a character like that weaving in and out of the story would improve the film. I feel very happy about the film. I think this character I invented was interesting. After filming Wheels on Meals I felt the audience liked seeing Benny "The Jet" fighting with Jackie Chan at the end. And I myself felt there was still more that could be filmed so I asked Benny "The Jet" to come over again to work with Jackie Chan in this film. Noone asked me and Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao to work together. Noone asked us to work together again, so we haven't. That's it. It's very simple. It'd be good to work together. If we aren't given a chance, why rail against it? With art, with film, with entertainment, if there's a chance to create a new unit together, I think that would be a good thing. If you can't think of anything to do, there is no need to work together again. That way people will always remember your best work. Of course, if we had an oppotunity to work together again, it would be good. I did miss those days, as we've been together since we were children. We've been together since I was nine or ten. And now, I'm 28 years old. That's a long time.'
